"This year we have quite a few warnings already about Peak Oil from main stream economists, universities, US military and government agencies all around the world. The question now is not if, but when is it going to happen.

We have time still, but it is running out very fast. After a certain point in the oil price increase the only concern we are going to have about Electric Cars will be their availability on a mass scale to preserve our way of life and freedom."

Now all picture comes together in electric space: we have roll out of GM Volt and hope to see it on the streets soon, Nissan Leaf has delivered its first electric car in U.S. and Europe is buzzing with electric vibe about EVs at Paris Motor Show 2010. Here comes the charging  infrastructure, everybody worried about, to make EVs a real mass market phenomenon. Across the pond Renault has announced its plan to advance Charging infrastructure as well.
France is very serious about its Electrification Program: by law all newly built commercial real estate will have to have charging points from 2012 and residential buildings will have to comply from 2015.

RFI:

Renault-Nissan announced Monday that it had signed an agreement with Leclerc to install charging stations for electric cars in its parking lots. The Franco-Japanese car company is expected to sign another such agreement with a European shopping centre giant.

The number of spaces at E. Leclerc stores will “depend on the number of electric cars” said Michel-Edouard Leclerc, director of the French retailer.

Fifty E. Leclerc centres will have charging stations by next year; 150 by the end of 2010; and 500 by 2015, with ultimately 260,000 parking spots.

Renault-Nissan was also expected to sign an agreement with the European commercial property giant Uibail-Rodamco to install stations in 22 of its 42 French shopping centres by the end of this year.

Renault expects ten per cent of its car sales in France to be electric vehicles by 2020."

Business of Plugging In 2010: GM has 100+ plug-in vehicle chargers installed around Michigan, 5,200 more on the way

by Sebastian Blanco (RSS feed) on Oct 13th, 2010

To kick off the 2010 Business of Plugging In expo in style, General Motors announced a big push for electric vehicle chargers that will help give the 2011 Chevrolet Volt models plenty of electric juice as they sit in parking spots around Michigan, including right in front of GM's world headquarters in downtown Detroit.

DTE Energy and Consumers Energy, with GM installing around 350 more on various properties it owns around the state. Two stations are already operable in front of the Renaissance Center, and there are over 100 more already installed. By the end of next week, the RenCen will sport 18 stations. Even with all of these public chargers dotting the landscape, Stephens said that, "We feel that the home charging station is the most important, the second most important would be able to charge at work."

Stephens would not say exactly when the first customer will take delivery of the first Volt, except that it will happen when the vehicle passes all of GM's quality production standards. Most likely, this will happen next month or possibly December. "It's whenever we complete that process," he said. "I would hope it would not take into January," he said in response to a reporter's question about the timeline.

The RenCen charging station, from ChargePoint, will be able to handle any modern electric vehicle, so we're starting our stopwatches now to see how long it takes someone to snap a photo of a Nissan Leaf or Tesla Roadster charging in front of GM's iconic HQ."
