Lithium: Mercedes-Benz to launch hybrid with Lithium-ion batteries. TNR.v, SQM, ROC, DAI, BYD, TTM, NSANY, GOOG, APPL, RIMM, HUI, XAU, FXI, RM.v,

Mercedes-Benz means German quality, reliability ans safety. These guys know how to build luxury cars for Top End of Mass market. It took them a while to stay without Electric Car headlines, but today's news worth the wait - it is another vote of confidence in safety of Lithium based batteries. By the way, get used to those pretty faces below: for the first time economy of USA and Europe will be Less then 50% of the world economy this year. Decoupling anyone?
"U.S., Europe Share of Economy to Fall to 49% in 2009, CEBR Says
By Mark Deen
June 2 (Bloomberg) -- The U.S., Canada and Europe will generate less than half of global economic output this year as the recession accelerates a shift in wealth toward China and other nations, a research group said.
The three economies will together account for 49.4 percent of the world economy in 2009, the London-based
Centre for Economics and Business Research Ltd said today in its quarterly ‘Global Prospects’ publication. That’s down from a range of 60 percent to 64 percent between 1995 and 2004.
The prediction underscores the political dimension of the recession as the governments who wrote the rules of global finance since World War II work more and more with China, Brazil and other emerging countries.
“We had expected this to happen but not quite so soon,”
Douglas McWilliams, chief executive of the CEBR, said in a statement. “The West will have to start to get to grips with the fact that we are no longer dominant and cannot expect to have things our own way.”

And here is our answer on future of lithium-ion batteries:
"Daimler said the main advantages of the newly developed lithium-ion battery were its compact dimensions and superior performance relative to conventional nickel-metal hybrid batteries such as those powering the Toyota Prius."

Do you remember we always talked about safe, reliable and affordable Electric car to make our Bull market in Lithium happen. Today we have the answer to safe and reliable part. Our Next Big Thing and new oil - lithium is in a capable hands and last hesitations about the industry standard choice of Lithium based technology is fading away after German vote of confidence.

"Automakers - Daimler's luxury brand, Mercedes-Benz, will launch an S-Class hybrid next year equipped with a lithium-ion battery supplied by Continental AG in what Daimler said Friday was a crucial technological breakthrough.
"The Stuttgart-based automaker is the world's first manufacturer to have succeeded in adapting lithium-ion technology to the demanding requirements of automotive applications," it said in a statement.
Daimler said the main advantages of the newly developed lithium-ion battery were its compact dimensions and superior performance relative to conventional nickel-metal hybrid batteries such as those powering the Toyota Prius.
The- 400 BlueHybrid will be powered by a 299 horsepower engine that enables it to sprint from zero to 100 km/h in 7.3 seconds. It would consume on average 7.9 litres of gasoline per 100 kilometres and emit 190 grams of carbon dioxide per kilometre, compared with 10.3 litres of gasoline and 247 grams of CO2 in a comparable conventional S-Class.
Daimler said this would make it "the world's most economical luxury sedan."
